Map of the Swansea Area

The county of Swansea includes the energetic second city of Wales and the breathtaking coastal scenery of the Gower Peninsula.

Maritime Swansea is a busy University City with a marina and seaside promenade alongside the waterfront of Swansea Bay. There are a wide range of exciting cultural and historic attractions, shopping centres and nightlife.

Just across the Bay is Mumbles, an attractive seaside town with great views, an imposing castle, and a name with a meaning lost in time. It was a favourite haunt of the poet Dylan Thomas who was born in Swansea.

In contrast, the peaceful Gower Peninsula is famous for its wonderful beaches, coves and dramatic cliffs. It was the first area of Britain to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (back in 1956), and it is dotted with small villages, historic castles and award-winning beaches. Some of the best to visit are at Rhossili Bay, Three Cliffs Bay and Oxwich.
