Isle of Anglesey Tourist Information

Welcome to Anglesey ...
Map of the Isle of Anglesey Area

The Isle of Anglesey (Ynys Mon in Welsh) is an island with its own unique character. Found just off the northern coast of Wales, it is known for its fantastic coastline, ancient history and maritime heritage.

The island is reached by travelling over one of two fantastic bridges over the water of the Menai Straits, both marvels of 19th century engineering. Many visitors are drawn to the numerous beautiful sandy beaches and stunningly dramatic sea cliffs. Anglesey has 125 miles of coastline in all, most of which is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - and there is a wonderfully scenic coastal path encircling the whole island.

Anglesey is also proud of its long history, and traces of the people that once lived here are found everywhere - from mysterious Neolithic standing stones and burial chambers to Roman forts and 13th century Beaumaris Castle. The islanders these days are known for their friendliness however, and Anglesey makes an ideal family holiday with plenty to see and do.

Anglesey was given some added Royal sparkle when Prince William and Kate Middleton (now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge) chose to begin their married life on the island. Their outspoken fondness for the peaceful atmosphere and picturesque beaches have drawn other visitors to discover this beautiful place for themselves.
